Case Study: Animated Book Trailer for “Flowers for Grandmother”
Case Study: Flowers for Grandmother — Animated Book Trailer
Client: Bettie Youngs, children's book author Project: 30-second animated book trailer Video: Watch below
The Challenge
Bettie Youngs' "Flowers for Grandmother" is a warm, emotional children's picture book about love, memory, and family. The challenge: capture that tenderness in 30 seconds of animation that would make parents stop scrolling and kids ask to watch again.
Children's books live or die on emotion. A slideshow of the cover would not do it. This needed real animation — characters who move, a world that breathes, and a story arc with a payoff.
Our Process
Script: We read the book and identified the emotional core — a child picking flowers for grandmother, the bond between them, and the bittersweet beauty of memory. The trailer follows a simple arc: the gift, the giggle, the sunset hug.
Animation: Using cinematic AI animation, we built consistent characters across every scene. The young girl looks the same from the garden to the sunset. The lighting shifts from bright morning play to golden-hour warmth, mirroring the story's emotional journey.
Sound: A cheerful ukulele track carries the joy, while the pacing slows for the emotional payoff at the end.
The Result
A 30-second trailer with a complete story arc: hook in the first 3 seconds, character moments in the middle, and an emotional payoff that sells the book. The trailer works as a standalone piece of content on TikTok, Reels, YouTube, and in paid ads.
What This Shows
Children's book trailers need animation, not slideshows. Kids respond to movement, color, and character. Parents respond to emotion. This trailer delivers both in 30 seconds.
